Tell us the things you love about your town/city

Rolesville has a small town feel but is close enough to Raleigh to allow access to plenty of cosmopolitan activities. There's plenty of shopping within a short drive, whether it's groceries, clothing, restaurants, DIY, etc. And there are plenty of parks and greenways for outdoor activities for adults and children. And when you think of southern hospitality, Rolesville is a great example of what that means.

Tell us something about your specific neighborhood/community

The neighborhoods around our home are very well connected. They use the NextDoor app to stay connected when folks want to communicate to the larger community. Most of the people in Jones Farm have lived their for many years. The subdivision is about 30 years old. Averette Ridge is newer, but residents stay very well connected. When walking or biking through either of these neighborhoods people always say, Hello.

What grocery stores and other conveniences are close to your home?

Within a two to three minute drive, you can choose to shop at Lowe's Foods, Food Lion, Harris Teeter, or Publix. Drug stores and gas stations are just as close. There's a Pep Boys just two miles down the road. And, there are plenty of fast food restaurants (McDonalds, Hardees, Bojangles, Chick-fil-a, Burger King, Dominos) and plenty of other restaurants where you can sit and be served. All of this is less that three minutes away.

Are there any annual events you look forward to attending each year?

Both Rolesville and Wake Forest have parades and gatherings in town at very traditional times. Christmas, Easter, Independence Day, etc. Since the opening of the Rolesville bypass several years ago, the parades through the downtown area are bigger and better than they used to be. Wake Forest has an incredible event in the spring called Meet in the Street. People plan for this all-day event well in advance and they come from towns well outside of Wake Forest.

What do your monthly utility bills typically look like?

Electric bills can swing quite a bit. During a very hot summer, we might have a month where electric is over $350. At the low end it will be under $200. Average is a little over $250. Gas (propane) is low as it is only needed for the gas logs. Water and sewer together are right at $70 per month and trash and recycle pickup are $35 a month paid quarterly. Spectrum for Internet is $49 per month.

Recent Renovations? List all renovations you've made within the past year, with approx. month/year (including lifetime roof improvements, room additions and other major renovations).

Within the past year, popcorn ceilings were removed throughout the house with the exception of the Mother-in-Law suite. The whole house was painted, inside and out. All light fixtures inside and out were replaced. All carpet was replaced with very plush carpeting and high end padding. Bathrooms were given a complete facelift including modernizing the master bath. The front porch was remodeled to bring it up to date. The screened porch was re-screened and painted and the deck was painted. A patio for a portable firepit was added. And, the oldest AC unit for cooling and heating the upstairs was replaced with a new 3-ton unit.

Love letter to the buyer:

When my wife and I got married after my first wife died, our friends called us the "Brady Bunch" with a combined family that included four teen and pre-teen children. We were living in one JVC home in Jones Dairy Farm but needed way more room. We asked Robert Jones to build us a home. He had just acquired a beautiful wooded lot that was .89 acres, so to speed up the design process we started with an existing plan, added some rooms, pushed out some walls, and came up with a home that would give us the space we needed when we were together and the walls to separate us when we wanted to be apart. But now with our children grown and gone except our special needs son, we have much more house and much more yard than we need. We will definitely miss the bonfires in the fall around the firepit I built in the woods. We'll miss the ballgames in the backyard and the Easter egg hunts with the kids and now the grandkids. It was a great place to raise a family. But the family's raised and it's time to downsize.
